The Bauhaus 1 Carpet by Gertrud Arndt is a striking example of Bauhaus design, originally created as a prototype in 1924. This carpet features a vibrant and colorful composition, characterized by numerous squares in a variety of hues. The design reflects the Bauhaus movement’s emphasis on geometric forms and primary colors, creating a visually dynamic piece.

Arndt, who initially intended to study architecture, was assigned to the weaving workshop at the Bauhaus in Weimar. Despite this unexpected direction, she excelled in textile design, producing works that have become iconic in the realm of German weaving art. The Bauhaus 1 Carpet was first produced as a pile carpet in the 1920s and was reissued in 2019 to celebrate the Bauhaus centenary.

Hand-knotted in Nepal from 100% pure new wool, the carpet measures 120 x 200 cm. Its intricate craftsmanship and historical significance make it a valuable addition to any interior, blending artistic heritage with modern design sensibilities.
